Why the Kookaburra laughs like that ?

A long time ago, in the Dreamtime, the kookaburra was very sad and alone because he didn’t have any friends.

One day, he decided to look for new friends, and he found lots of little insects which he had never seen. So, he followed them to their home. It was ants, and to see better, he put his head in the ant hill. But an ant went in his mouth and fell in his throat! And when the kookaburra wanted to speak, the ant saw a light and want to walk out, so that tickled the kookaburra and he laughed.

Since then, the kookaburra has lots of friends beacause he has a very funny laugh and he looks happy all the time.

The Snake and the Dunnart

A long time ago in the dreamtime, there lived a snake who had a very big appetite.

One day, he met the biggest wild animal of the world : the dunnart (a mouse). The snake had eyes bigger than his stomach because he was very greedy ! He wanted to eat the dunnart ! Given that the dunnart was very very shy, he ran away at top speed seeing the snake.

But suddenly, the dunnart fell on a thorny devil (a lizard with very pointed spikes), then just like that, he flew away like a balloon deflating.

The snake was really amazed ! The dunnart landed some metres farther ridiculously tiny. The snake approached the small animal and wanted to eat him ! But the dunnart ran very fast in a tiny mousehole where the snake couldn’t go.

Since then, all the dunnarts are extremely small !

The kangaroo and the koala.

A long time ago there was a kangaroo who was very very slow, and his best friend, the koala bear, who he, on the contrary was a very fast animal.

A beautiful spring day, the two friends were walking. They saw a sort of red mountain. They decided to explore this big red mountain.

Later, an aborigine appeared suddenly.

He says : -What are you doing on this hill ?

You have nothing to do here ! said the angry man.

The Koala and the Kangaroo were worried. The Kangaroo answered with a decided tone:

“- We have dedcided to go to the summit of this red big mountain, and nothing will stop us.

-If you go up to the summit, you will regret it !


And he disappeared. The two friends, determined to go up to the summit, started again the road.

Two hours later, they arrived at the top of the mountain and discovered the beautiful landscape of Australia.

Suddenly, they heard a big noise.The Koala and the Kangaroo were terrified.

Suddenly a big rock fall on the leg of the Koala. The kangaroo helped him when a big rock fell near the two friends. The kangaroo terrified put his friend in is pouch. The koala was completely knocked out! The kangaroo ran faster and faster. And the koala moved very slow because he didn’t get better after this accident.

It’s why the Kangaroo is faster than the koala !

And the Koala is slower than the Kangaroo !

The Kangaroo and the Turtle

A lond time ago in the Dreamtime, in Australia, the Kangaroo and the turtle were not friends for a territorial reasons.
One day, the turtle wanted to make a joke on the kangaroo. As it was a very hot day, the sand was very hot on the beach! The turtle invited the kangaroo on the beach! The kangaroo came but he noticed that the sand was very hot! So he jumped off the beach to not burn his feet!

Since that day, all the kangaroos jump to move because they think that the ground is hot.

A (horror) dreamtime story!

The underwater world.

A long time ago during the dreamtime, fish were animals which lived on land. They were friendly with dingos, they were best friends. One day, there was a rainbow. Fish loved rainbows so they walked to the foot of the rainbow and met some kangaroos. The kangaroos guarded gold at the foot of the rainbow. One day the kangaroos said to the fish:

«We are going to travel when we come back, you must guard the gold nuggets for us.
-Ok. Good travels! » said the fish.

The dingos were jealous and stole the gold nuggets. When the kangaroos came back, they wanted to recover their gold nuggets again but the fish couldn’t find it. The kangaroos were angry and they prepared a ceremony for the fish.

During the ceremony, the kangaroos cut the arms and legs off the fish and threw them in the sea. The fish were angry and sad… They went into the sea to look for their arms and legs but they couldn’t find them and are still looking today…

The koala and the emu


A long time ago during the Dreamtime, the koala was the fastest animal of Australia. He was the fastest animal of all the tropical forest. One day, a new animal came: an emu. He came from the desert. Very early the koala wanted to run with the emu because he ran very fast.
One day, the koala met the emu to invite him to run with him and the emu accepted. The next day, lots of animals from the forest were present to see that. The race began and the koala and the emu started very fast. During the race, they crossed lots of mountains, rivers, hot desert and one tropical forest. Near the end of the race, the koala took a secret passage, but the emu saw him... At the finishing line, the emu hit the koala with his beak and paralized the koala for all his life.
This is why today ….guess !!!

WHY HAS PLATYPUS GOT A FLAT NOSE ?

A platipus who liked to hunt near the center of Australia to eat some lizards wanted one day to catch a lizard who was faster than all the others. Platypus wanted to eat him because it was a very big lizard. Suddenly, the lizard vanished, Platypus didn’t know where the lizard was, when he saw a little hole. He put his nose into the hole to see if the lizard was in the hole but he got stuck. The lizard left the hole by the other entrance and Platypus wanted to catch him again but when he left the hole, a big rock fell from the sky and compressed his nose. This rock is now called Uluru.
And this is why the platypus has got a flat nose.

Why the Tasmian devil is called so?

A long long time ago in the dreamtime ,Tasmania was a big forest with lots of animals.In it there was an animal,it was black ,small ,sometimes fat and looked like a little strange bear.Everybody loved him!He was so cute ,nice and fun!

One day he went for a walk in the forest,but in the middle of the forest he saw...Blood,blood everywhere!
There was a dead cat.At this moment the chief of the animal kingdom came; it was a big,light coloured cat.He saw the horrible scene ,and cried “Heeeelp!”. All the animals of the forest came and saw the dead cat. Everybody said that the strange little bear killed the cat,but it wasn’t true,but no-one believed him. They called him “The Tasmanian devil”. This annoyed the poor bear and he became aggresive.

Now all the strange little bears are still aggresive and are called “Tasmian devils”.

Why are there Pinnacles in Australia ?

A long time ago in the dreamtime, when there was nothing on earth, the sun was suddenly hotter than other days.
A star, which was next to the sun, began to warm up.
When the temperature came to 19 million degrees, the star began to crack.
When the temperature was approximately 1oo million degrees the star exploded and the parts fell like spears onto the earth and into the sea.
That is why today, there are lots of rocks in Australia which look like big posts. They are called the Pinnacles.

Why is a platypus half duck half beaver?

A long time ago, during the dreamtime, in the forest, not all the animals were friends. An example is the beaver and the duck. The beaver hated the duck and the duck hated the beavers. One day, the other animals were fed up with their war and tried to find a witch.
They wanted to turn the beaver into an animal which is half beaver half duck. To do this, the witch needed a hair of the two animals to bewitch them.
Two days later, there was a strange animal with a flat tail like a beaver and a beak like a duck in the forest.
This animal still exists today and is called the platypus.

THE KING OF THE SEA WHO HAD BLUE BLOOD


A very long time ago in the dreamtime, the sea was transparent. The king of the sea was the biggest whale.
This whale was as big as Uluru and his blood was blue. He was a good whale so, all the fish liked him!!!
One day, he wanted to see the Aborigines. He came near the beach but the Aborigines didn’t know what this blue mountain was. They were scared and they decided to attack the whale! The poor whale bled into the sea. The king whale decided to return to the middle of the sea and his blood colured all the oceans and all the seas blue.
That’s why today fish are scared of humans and that's why the sea is blue!

Why the echidna has spikes

A long time ago, in the dream time, there was an incredible animal. It was very small and looked like a mole. It lived in caves in the night and in the day it travelled everywhere. But one night, this incredible animal came to a cave but it didn’t know that there was a volcano above this cave. In the middle of the night, the volcano erupted. On the ceiling, there were stalactites, and when the floor stared to move, all stalactites falls on the poor animal and it was covered with spikes.
And now this strange animal with spikes is called the echidna.

Why some black mice have wings and hang from trees?

A long time ago, in the dreamtime, in the tropical forest, a strange black mouse was very sad because he had two ridiculous wings. He had no friends and felt so alone. But this day, a little white mouse cried under his tree. The back mouse heard her and consoled her. They fell in love and they were happy again. The black mouse looked at her all the morning and all the afternoon. But, when the night came, he was sad because he couldn’t see his loved one. So at night, he decided to sleep upside down with his head, hanging from the tree so he could see his loves one all the time. They were lovers forever and they had lots of black mice with wings who slept head upside down hanging from the tree. To this day you can see this strange animal in Australia, they are call flying foxes.

Why does the sun go to sleep?

In the Dreamtime, the sun shone on only part of the north.
Animals were sad because it’s was dark all day long.
Then the kangaroo jumped and pushed the sun very hard and the sun fell down.
The sun went to the other side of the earth.
So the animals of the south were happy! After that the animals of the south asked the sun to alternate between the South and the North part of the earth.
Since then, the sun agreed to alternate and the two parts of the earth are now sunny.

Beautiful Colours

A long time ago in the Dreamtime, there was an awful island. It had white sand and the water had no colour.
A little boy lived on this island. He was bored of the landscape. He dreamed every night of a beautiful beach with pastel colours like blue, purple, green, grey and turquoise which represented the beach of his dreams.
One day he used pastel colours and painted on his friend’s body. He found the picture was like his dream. But the boy wanted the drawing to become real. He took his friend to the sea. The colours began to wash off in the water and the beach became like the boy’s dream.
Today this island is one of the most beautiful islands of the Coral Sea.

WHY THE EMU CAN'T FLY

A long time ago, in the dreamtime, the emu could fly. It was the most beautiful bird in the sky and all the other animals liked and respected the emu.
But the emu was conceited and unfriendly. So the sky decided to give it a lesson. He threw lightening on the emu. The emu fell down and the sky said :
“You must be more generous and friendlier”.
The emu tried and tried, but it could not fly. It was so sad it hid its head in the sand to cry.
But today, if it cries, it isn’t friendlier or more generous and its bad temper has punished all the emus.

THE BABY KOALA

In the Dreamtime, a long time ago, the baby koalas had only one choice to stay with their mothers, which was to hold on to their mothers' backs with their little fingers. This was not very comfortable for the mothers or the babies but it was the only solution they could find.
Little by little, when the babies became bigger, they pulled on the poor mothers' skin and their skin became stretched. When these mothers had another baby they got a brilliant idea! The mothers made a pouch with the stretched skin.

Since this day, the baby koala sleeps in their mother's pouch, till they get bigger hands.

WHY IS THE HEART REEF LIKE A HEART?


A long time ago in Australia, on a coral reef like many others, two turtles were in love. But, one day, the man turtle met a beautiful girl turtle! He decided to leave his partner to go with the turtle of his dreams!
Now, the first lady turtle who stayed on the reef was very sad because she loved her partner very much! She was so sad, that she ate the coast of the reef.
Three months later the man turtle returned to his reef because the turtle he met was beautiful but she was bad! When, he saw the reef, it was not a simple reef, it was a heart reef! The sad lady turtle was so depressed that she had changed the reef to a heart shaped reef! The man turtle returned with his first partner and they had a lot of baby turtles!!!
Today this reef is in the shape of a heart and lots of turtles go there to have their babies!

The Kookaburra was always sad; he never laughed and had just one friend: a koala. The Kookaburra lived alone on his big gum tree .
Every day was the same for him he was very bored. One day, his friend came to visit him, because the Kookaburra was so sad! Then his friend told him a funny story about a hunter, who was hunted by a kangaroo!! The Kookaburra found this so funny and laughed all day long! He was so happy after laughing all day that he told the funny story to his cousin. And he thought the story was funny too and told it to his friends and to his family ... and so on ...
Finally the koala’s story was known by every kookaburra in the country .
One week later, a hunter walked near the Kookaburra’s big tree and the kookaburras thought of the Koala’s story and laughed and laughed at the hunter .
Since then, kookaburras have a song like a human’s laugh.

THE GECKO

A long time ago, the Geckos were completely white because their ancestors lived on a snowy mountain.
One day their ancestors crossed the desert to live in the tropical forest.
A little gecko walked in the desert and a horrible spider asked why his body was white. He answered: ”It’s because for several years I lived in a snowy mountain.” The spider was very surprised because she had never seen a white animal before. In the desert, animals are generally orange, brown or red.
The gecko was very frightened in the desert because all the animals could see his white body on the red sand.
The gecko continued to cross the desert… It was very very hot and the sun burnt his back. Little by little the gecko became red all over. He managed to cross the desert without any animals seeing him.
This is why today all geckos are red !
