Tate Modern

http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/

The Tate Modern is the first British gallery for modern art, and one of the most famous and touristic one of London. Located in an old power station, the gallery contains international modern art from 1900 to date, including writings of some famous artists of the 20th century like Picasso, Warhol or Dali. The ancient engine rooms have been redeployed into a huge hall that can receive amazing expositions!

The collection is organised around a series of themes rather than chronologically. The different topics are : History/Memory/Society/Nude/Action/BodyLandscape/Matter/Environment/Life/Object/Real Life.

Thanks to the success of the Tate Modern, the town hall of London has decided to create an extension which will be like a cubist "Babel tower" ( a sort of glass Pyramid ) and will be dedicated for photography and video. It should open in 2012.

Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar quare is a very famous place in Westminster in London. On this square Horatio Nelson is standing on his column guarded by 4 lion statues. This column was built after the battle of Trafalgar (1805) ,the British won this battle against the French. Horatio Nelson’s statue is standing at the top of the column because he died during the battle. A legend says that the lion statues were made with the hull of the French ships. Today people come there to eat sandwiches or to feed the pigeons, it’s a social place!

The Angry Emu

The koala and the emu

A long time ago during the Dreamtime, the koala was the fastest animal of Australia. He was the fastest animal of all the tropical forest. One day, a new animal came: an emu. He came from the desert. Very early the koala wanted to run with the emu because he ran very fast.
One day, the koala met the emu to invite him to run with him and the emu accepted. The next day, lots of animals from the forest were present to see that. The race began and the koala and the emu started very fast. During the race, they crossed lots of mountains, rivers, hot desert and one tropical forest. Near the end of the race, the koala took a secret passage, but the emu saw him... At the finishing line, the emu hit the koala with his beak and paralized the koala for all his life.
This is why today ….guess !!!

No Man's Land

SYNOPSIS : In 1993, during the war of Bosnia, two ennemies, a Bosnian and a Serbian soldier, Ciki and Nino, both fall in a No Man's Land. Before that, Nino and another Serbian soldier had put down a Bosnian body on a mine. But the trapped soldier is not dead. Ciki and Nino try to find a solution.
At the same time, a member of the Blue Helmets try to help them, even if his superiors forbids it to him. Some international journalists go on place and try to transform this news item into a media show. The hatred between the two soldiers doesn't cease augmenting.
The superiors of the FORPRONU decide finally to send a mine clearence expert. But he can't do anything.
Ciki and Nino go out of the trench and, using inattention of the Blue Helmets, kill each other. The journalists and the FORPRONU left the place, and let the trapped soldier alone on his mine...

THE FILM : realised by Danis Tanovic in 2001, "No Man's Land" has accepted the "palme d'or" of the best scenario the same year. One of the feature of the film is the languages spoken : the serbocroate, the french, the english, and a little bit of german. It's a hard film, but it's especially very true !

Altough it was a sad film, we both enjoyed it ! =)

The grave of the fireflies

This story takes place in Japan in 1945, near Kôbe. A teenager, Seita, dies in a station. His spirit meets again his little sister, called Setsuko, who died during the war in the pacific.
The two spirits travel in the past, and go back just before the 2nd World War when bombs destroyed their house and their city, and when their mother died. As their mother was dead, they had to go to their aunt to eat and sleep, but she wasn’t very nice with them, so they didn’t like her.
Finally, they decided to live alone and to go to a deserted shelter, near a river. But one day, as they didn’t have food enough, Setsuko fell seriously sick. That’s the reason why Seita went to the bank and asked for his mother’s savings in order to buy healthy food for his sister. But he didn’t manage to care for her, and she died.

C’est l’histoire de Seita et Setsuko, deux esprits revenant dans le passé au moment de la guerre qu’ils ont vécu...

• Opinions :

>Frédéric :
I think that the film was sad, but boring because there’s no action, I didn’t like the film very much.

>Marion :
For me, this film was interesting because it talked about the war in the Pacific. But it was also sad, when Seita’s mother and his sister died.

Happy new year from Sylvain

Hello everybody !!!

During my holiday I was not at home but in “Tenerife” a beautiful Island next to Spain. It was very hot and sunny. There I went to Los Gigantes which is a big town with it famous cliff. It was very beautiful. During Christmas day, I went to the see “black beach “(it is called like that because the sand is black, it is volcanic sand). At midday I had lots of things like fish, chips, and lots of vegetables, cheese, gully and fruits.
And you what did you do during the holiday?
Finally I wish you a Happy New Year!!!
